About

I am a stay at home momma to an almost 4 year old daughter and a 1 year old son. I have been sewing for as long as I can remember, making clothes, and bedding for my Barbies and fiddling with my mom’s much neglected sewing machine. I had my first formal lessons in sewing when I was 12 when a local grandma and a classmate’s mom taught the grade 7 and 8 girls to sew. We made a cushion cover (which I still have, and still have never put a cushion in it!), a makeup bag, potholder and a pair of boxers/shorts. I learned to read a pattern, properly finish my seams and how to rip it out if it wasn’t working.

Throughout high school I continued to dabble with sewing, inheriting an ancient White machine from a family friend, and taking a class in sewing in my final year. I toted that machine with me to University, where I made my friend and I Hawaiian shirts for a themed party, pajamas for myself, and kimono’s for a costume party in my 4th year.

Over the next few years I sewed occasionally, making pajamas for my nieces and nephew, repairing and hemming clothes. I started making my own horseback riding clothes when I realized I could make them for a lot less than I could buy in store.

Before my daughter was born I got back into sewing. With the help of my husband we cut out and sewed over 4 dozen cloth diapers, and I started my making an upcycled wardrobe for our baby to be. After her birth friends and acquaintances started to notice her clothes, and commenting on where they too could find them. With their encouragement I started to make a few items for others and prepared for my first ever craft show.

Over the past three years I opened my Etsy shop and have continued doing one craft show a year around Christmas time, finished my Masters in Mathematics for Teachers, a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Business and had another baby, phew! Now that I am done with schooling for the time being (I’m a life long learner) and my eldest is in preschool twice a week, I am hoping to focus more time and energy into my little business, and do the occasional sewing for myself.

A Brother sewing/embroidery machine and a serger joined my sewing arsenal (and yes, I still have that White!), this summer a coverstitch machine joined the team as a graduation gift from my husband. I’m still learning on the coverstitch, but try to incorporate it as much as possible in my sewing.
